Be The Change Counselling Services

My journey to becoming a counsellor has not been linear. I started in the professional world in 2006 as an accounting technician, and worked on and off in that area for several years. In 2014, after experiencing a time of immense personal struggle, I radically shifted gears to start working in a transition home, facilitating an addiction treatment program for men on parole or who had experienced homelessness. This is where I discovered my love of group work and how fulfilling it is to work with and help people. I learned so much about motivation and resilience, overcoming shame and adversity, and the power of community during that time. I moved on from group facilitation and, in 2022, discovered peer support work when I completed CMHA Calgary’s Peer Support Worker certification program. Peer support has given me a way to take my lived experience with mental health and all of life’s challenges and use it in a meaningful way to help others. Through peer support, I discovered my love of individual work and the therapeutic power of relationships and feeling heard. Soon after completing that credential, I decided to pursue counselling as a career and in 2025, I graduated with a Diploma in Applied Psychology, specializing in Professional Counselling.

As an integrative, person-centred, post-modern behavioural therapist, I use various approaches such as Internal Family Systems (IFS), Narrative Therapy and Feminist Theory, and employ tools from behavioural modalities such as DBT, CBT and ACT. I will meet you where you are, help you put yourself in context in your world and your life, and use your own insight to overcome your challenges. Each of us is an expert in our own experience; sometimes that expertise just needs to be uncovered and listened to. I am here to help with that process, to help you discover your own strengths and truths, and equip you with some tools along the way. I provide a compassionate, non-judgmental space to explore your concerns, from anxiety to depression, substance use, ADHD or other life stresses. I bring authenticity, hope, connection, and safety to my practice, along with a genuine desire to be of service and help you live the life you wish to live. I understand what it is like to struggle and what it takes to do the work to feel better.

When I am on my own time, I am Mom to a teenage boy and a small grey dog. Parenting is the single most rewarding and simultaneously challenging thing I have ever done. Reading is my first love, and I can often be found snuggled up with a book or listening to an audiobook while I do chores. I like to spend time with my friends and family, chatting over a cup of coffee, going for a walk, or playing a game. I currently reside in Calgary, and while I’m not a great sports fan, I do enjoy the equestrian events at Spruce Meadows.

I am a candidate member in good standing with the Canadian College of Professional Counselling Praticitioners, and a student member of the Association of Counseling Therapy of Alberta. I am currently completing my supervised hours under Nikki Hemstad Leete.
